Drakenlords Review

Although not as popular as the big boys such as its Hearthstone or Pokemon counterparts, this surprisingly challenging card game packs more than a punch in terms of content and challenge. There’s enough content here to keep you busy for days, weeks even. And what’s more, it’s not just content for content sake; there are some really well crafted, meaningful characters present here.

The game is well crafted with some incredible design work both in terms of overall design and specifically the interface. Clear, focused visuals leaves one wondering why all mobile experiences aren’t so polished. Everything is well made and the game just has that fantasy air to it. It feels nostalgic, it feels legitimate, and it feels very good.

The combat is tactically heavy while vibrations and effects are there to make you feel as if you, the player; is right there in the thick of it casting spells and summoning companions. Communicate with a set of onscreen commands that makes for a comical interaction usually, albeit sometimes a bit dark hearted and ill-intended. Cards range from utterly weak to mind-blowingly mighty with buffs worked in to help make your champions all the more powerful. There are spells cards, unit cards and a Hero card worked into a system synonymous with some of the classic interfaces we’ve come to know and love. There are many different factions to choose from to help you create that perfect deck.

The game features both a campaign mode and online play with matchmaking. Overall the game has not matched me with extremely easy or difficult matches and as such I would say the system works well. The online play has very few issues and connectivity is almost never an issue. At the start a played against easier opponents and as I progressed in skill and experience so did the matchmaking match me with similar leveled players. I’ve won about half the games I’ve played and so I would say its been very balanced. I’ve really been enjoying it immensely.

All in all I would wholeheartedly recommend this game, especially to those wanted a break from some of the more well-known card games. This game often not only lives up to those titles but outdoes them numerously. Its a fantastic experience with a hint of nostalgia added for effect.
