Sandwalkers Prologue Review

Sandwalkers is a surprisingly nice game that at first glance gives me some strong Heroes 2/3 vibes, but at the same time not. It’s a roguelike turn-based exploration game. The graphics are vibrant and colorful pixel art, not too low res, making the game very visually appealing. The goal of the game is to resurrect the Mother Tree Umama. (the joke?)

The player must carefully control the direction that the Sandwalker moves on hexagonal spaces, each space eats up one food supply and even more for going up an elevation, enemies are lurking but so is the loot. The game mechanics are straightforward and easy to learn, making it accessible to all types of players. The levels are challenging and require strategic thinking to overcome obstacles and reach the end of the level where a spoileralert big-ass Boss is waiting. The difficulty of the levels increases as you progress, making the game more and more challenging. The map design is also procedurally generated so replayability is a thing. At least in the Full release. The sound design of Sandwalkers is also very enjoyable, creating an immersive atmosphere for the game. The sound effects add to the game’s atmosphere, making it more engaging and enjoyable.

There are currently three modes to the game. The explore mode, where you roam the map to find loot and enemies, the Battle mode where you actually do battle with enemies, and the city mode, where you buy trade and heal up your Caravan and occupants.

Overall, Sandwalkers is a great game that provides an enjoyable experience for its players. It has great graphics, sound design, and easy-to-learn but difficult-to-master mechanics. The levels are challenging and the game provides a great experience for its players. Highly recommended for any type of player. We can’t wait to get our hands on the full version and update this review accordingly!

Sandwalkers is set to release in 2023.
