Asphalt Street Storm Racing Review

Racing games have always been at the forefront of gaming entertainment in terms of visuals and authenticity. Although this wasn’t always the case with mobile titles the tide has largely turned into what is now a large market sector of different types of racing games, be they simulation, arcade or just plain silly. There are many types too, with game-play featuring all kinds of vehicles. We have side-scrolling bike racers, 4×4 truck driving simulators, drag racing titles, and yes; even the age old parking simulator games, among many others.

Asphalt Street Storm Racing is very much in the drag racing mold of the vehicular gaming spectrum. Think back to the drag racing section in Need For Speed (Especially Most Wanted). This game consists entirely of those sections. Each race is basically a drag against and opponent or opponents. The races are very short with timing being the biggest factor in the controls of the game. You have to shift and use nitros at the exactly correct times for maximum effect and added bonuses to the score. Do it wrong and you are sure to loose. Although this isn’t exactly a complex control scheme it really does the job and is more fun than one would expect.

The game looks undoubtedly fantastic, being one of the most beautiful games of the current generation on mobile platforms. The cars look amazingly made and textured and feel very authentic. The city looks just as good and one can tell allot of performance optimization has gone into the title to make it as smooth as it is. You’ll be hard pressed to find a better looking car game out there right now.

The game has the classic currencies going in that you can either buy or unlock new upgrades and cars, as we’ve seen hundreds of times before. You can also pay to speed up the construction time on upgrades, while this is still utterly ridiculous; its still nothing new. There is a fair number of upgrades to do on each car without being excessively overwhelming, a good balance has been found in this department. There are however, multitudes of cars to choose from, impacting game-play and longevity massively. This game will keep you busy for quite a while and wont become boring for some time.

In short, this game is allot of fun and it looks absolutely fantastic; but it isn’t anything new and wont be seen as a classic. Play it for what it is and dont expect too much and you’ll have a good few hours of game-time that you’ll surely enjoy.
